How is your move priced?
If you are like most people, moving costs can be quite scary and seem like magic. Especially when it comes to moving to and from the island.
We would like to break it down though so that you can be fully aware of the costs and make an educated decision about which provider to go with.
The first thing to understand is that moving services are charged differently based on the distance traveled. Local moves like in the same city or to a close city, like East Vancouver to Burnaby, would be a local move. Longer distance moves would be moves like Vancouver to Victoria, Burnaby to Vernon. There is no exact boundary, but in general, you can think of a move of less than 50km to be local and over 50km to potentially be long distance. Corporate and office moves have different pricing from both of these.
How are local moves charged?
Local moves are charged with travel time, which is based on distance to get to the property. In general, it is 1 hour but can be up to 2 hours. Afterwards, the only general charge is the time per hour for the movers. Depending on the size, format and contents of the move, we may recommend more than the standard of two movers. There are certain circumstances when elevator time in condos is extremely tight.
For larger residents, in order to get everything done in a single day, whenever possible, we may suggest more movers. When you provide us with your residence size, we can provide an estimate of the time it will take. However, this is a range and depends on numerous factors, not only, but including factors like parking, assembly/disassembly of items like beds, desks, heavy and unwieldy items, access to the residence itself, which may have narrow stairs or several flights of stairs.
Charging by hour is the standard in the industry along with travel time and service minimums.
At BCMovers, we charge in 15 minute increments and we have a 2 hour service minimum.
There are circumstances where we do offer alternative pricing and requirements for unique situations like grand piano or other heavy or bulk item moving.
Feel free to reach out to us if you have unique circumstances.
We also offer a number of services including residence cleanup, temporary storage, moving material rentals and more.
How are long-distance moves charged?
Long distance moves are charged based on weight and distance. They are always at a fixed price, with no surprises. When you do a consultation with us, either by Facetime or in person (if in the lower mainland), we will estimate the weight of your belongings and then calculate the distance. The only other fee that is added to that is the cost of ferries, if you move to the island. Estimated quotes are fixed. We will not charge more than that unless the initial information about the number of belongings was significantly distorted.
The only times when there are other fees are when we provide on a per request basis that they are charged differently. These include items like full-service packing and unpacking, temporary storage, cleaning, specialty containers like wardrobe boxes. There are also sometimes extra fees associated with unique circumstances. For instance, for one move, we contracted a crane to bring items from the second floor to ground level.
How are corporate and office moves priced?
Corporate and office moves often require a lot of movers, several trucks and a lot of equipment. On top of which, businesses often need to go through procurement departments and have clear budgets. For corporate and office moves, we assign a specific move manager who will both guide your move and be on site during the move, ensuring minimal downtime.
